Eight-year-old girl, separated from brother on Rakshabandhan, reunited with family

In an incident that shows the efficacy of institutions when police and civilians join hands to work on societal issues, an 8-year-old girl from Navsari, who was separated from her brother in Surat, was reunited with her family the next day.

The child was found by a good Samaritan, crying on the side of the road near Vidya Sankul School in Adajan area of Surat.

The kind man, Rahul Prajapati, took it upon himself to help the little girl and took her to Adajan police station and left her in the care of police officials.

There, the Police Station Officer (PSO) informed Manjulata Jain, a volunteer with the Friends for Women and Children (FFWC) programme run by the CID, who in turn reached out to the coordinator Piyush Shah for advice in the matter.

PI JB Bubadiya spoke to the child in the presence of Jain, asking her about her name and other essential details, trying to coax from the child her city and area of residence.

While the child initially just kept crying, she ultimately did reveal to the officials that she was from Bilimora in Navsari and that she had got separated from her cousin when they had visited Surat city on Rakshabandhan.

Once the child informed police officials about her approximate area of residence, the police inspector reached out to his counterpart in Bilimora. The local police then traced the child's family.

They were reunited when the family reached Adajan police station on August 4
