Elected New Meghalaya Assembly Speaker: Metbah Lyngdoh

 

SHILLONG: United Democratic Party (UDP) administrator from Mairang supporters, Metbah Lyngdoh was on Friday chosen as the new Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly.

Lyngdoh crushed Congress competitor and Salmanpara official Winnerson D Sangma by an edge of 20 votes.

Lyngdoh got 39 votes while his rival Sangma surveyed 19 votes.

Agent Speaker, Timothy D Shira didn’t cast a ballot.

The political decision to the post of the Assembly Speaker was required after the unexpected death of Dr Donkupar Roy on July 28. The new Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly, was a candidate of the decision Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) alliance.

The MDA has 40 individuals which incorporates 21 of the National People’s Party, six of the UDP, four from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), two each from the from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and BJP one each from KHNAM and NCP and three independents.

Lyngdoh who is a three time MLA from Mairang, was chosen as the leader of the UDP on September 11 like his forerunner, late Dr Donkupar Roy. Leader of the House and Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma saluted the new Speaker.
