Election Commission of India removes Chhindwara, Shahdol collectors

BHOPAL: Two district collectors including that of chief minister Kamal Nath’s native district Chhindwara were removed following the orders of Election Commission of India on Monday.

District collector Chhindwara Shriniwas Sharma was removed and posted in secretariat while managing director of Urja Vikas Nigam, Bharat Yadav was made collector Chhindwara.

Orders were issued in the evening.

In another such move, district collector Shahdol Lalit Dahima was removed and Shekhar Verma, director of Bhopal Gas Tragedy Victims Relief and Rehabilitation was posted in his place.

“The transfers were done on the recommendations of EC,” chief electoral officer Madhya Pradesh VL Kantha Rao told TOI.

Sources said that Chhindwara collector was removed by ECI after complaints were made against him following the controversy that erupted after the helicopter of former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was denied permission for landing in Chhindwara on April 24.

In case of Shahdol collector it has been alleged that on April 20, minister Omkar Singh Markam, had reached collector’s office and had allegedly threatened officials in presence of collector. A notice was also served to Markam by EC on May 9.
