Embassy attacker visited India in December with family, say officials

A day after London businessman, Inderpal Singh Gaba (38), was arrested for the 2023 attack on Indian mission by the pro-Khalistan supporters, officials said he had visited India in December last year with his family and was arrested after several rounds of questioning for his alleged involvement in the unlawful act in London.

Gaba, they said, owns liquor and grocery stores, and is a UK citizen. He also owns a house in Greater Kailash in New Delhi. Gaba was detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport upon his arrival in December 2023 based on a lookout circular (LOC) issued by the NIA. "He was later allowed to move freely and was questioned by the NIA and arrested based on the evidence. He has been remanded to NIA custody for six days by an NIA court in New Delhi," said a senior official. Gaba, according to the NIA, is a Sikh of Afghan origin and has been staying in London since 1995."NIA investigations in the case so far have revealed that the incidents in London on 19th March and 22nd March last year were parts of a larger conspiracy to unleash attacks on the Indian missions and its officials. The attacks in London in March 2023 were found to be in retaliation to the action taken by Punjab Police against pro-Khalistan separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023," the agency said.
