Engine trial run conducted from Nayagarh to Mahipur station in Odisha

Nayagarh: The much-discussed Khordha-Bolangir railway project is set to be taken a step further with the engine trial run conducted on Nayagarh-Mahipur rail line today.

According to reports, an engine was run on the tracks for a distance of 11.9 km between Nayagarh and Mahipur today. The engine rolling began at 12 noon.

It reached Mahipur and returned to Nayagarh on time, at a speed of about 100 km/hr, infomed Tapadarshi Sahoo, Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) of Khordha Division.

“I am happy that Mahipur station is now on the Indian Railways map. The tracks are in good condition. The East Coast Railway’s Commissioner of Railway Safety is scheduled to visit Nayagarh for further round of inspection on July 25. Later on, it will be decided on extension of train services on this route,” said loco pilot S N Rao,

Worth mentioning, the 25-year-old Khordha-Bolangir railway project is a 289-km-long under construction railway line connecting Khordha Road Junction and Bolangir railway station. ECoR has already completed and commissioned 65.5 km amd 14.6 km rail line between Khordha Road-Nayagarh Town and Bolangir-Bichhupalli railway stations, respectively.
