Commentary
  • So, that's all from this game! Bangladesh go 1-0 up while Sri Lanka put up a disappointing performance. The next ODI will be played on Tuesday 25th May 2021 at 1300 local (0700 GMT). Goodbye and take care!
  • Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh skipper, says he is happy with the way they fought, adds in the batting, Rahim and Mahmudullah played really well. Adds Afif’s knock was also important. Admits batting wasn’t easy and 250 was a good score. States losing is no fun and finally they won, they lost 10 games in a row in all formats and now they are happy they have won but the job is not done and there are two more games to go. Ends by saying the passion for the country drives them forward in these tough conditions and there is a lot of games after this series and he is looking forward to what is going to happen.
  • Mushfiqur Rahim, Man of the Match, says it was not an easy wicket to bat on and they were in a bit of bother but Tamim and Mahmudullah batted really well and that let the pressure off him, overall it was good game. States he’s not a power hitter so he sticks to his strength and looks to milk the runs and he tries to keep one end safe and Afif and Saif added the finishing touch. Ends by saying it is not ideal conditions to play cricket, it is very hot and humid and he credits the players for the way they played.
  • Kusal Perera, Lankan skipper, says losing is not good but there are a lot of positives. Adds the bowlers were really good especially Hasaranga. Mentions Bangladesh have a good side, the bowling did well against them and 250 was chasable but the batters should take more responsibility. Also adds Hasaranga is a highly rated player and in these conditions to score runs and bowl 10 overs is excellent. States Udana and Hasaranga gave them a chance but Bangladesh bowled well. Ends by saying they’ll look to comeback strongly.
  • It was all about the big guns for Bangladesh in this game. After electing to bat, the likes of Rahim, Tamim and Mahmudullah stepped up. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they got to a competitive total. With the ball, the experience of Mehidy, Shakib and Rahman come to the fore as they used their variations nicely and have won the game for their side.
  • For Lanka, there were a few batters in the upper and middle order who got starts but none of them went onto score a big one. Had it not been for Hasaranga's fifty, the margin of defeat would have been bigger. He kept the Lankan hopes alive, first with a good stand with Shanaka and then with Udana. Once he fell though, it all fell apart for the visitors.
  • Defending just below 260, the Bangladesh bowlers leaked runs initially but the wicket of Gunathilaka changed everything. They not only managed to apply the breaks but also got wickets at regular intervals. Mehidy Hasan was the star as he got 4 crucial wickets. Except for Taskin every bowler ha da decent outing. Overall, they will be quite satisfied with their performance.
  • End of a very professional performance by the Bangladesh players and they will be very pleased to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
