Commentary
  • That ends the first ODI between West Indies and Bangladesh with Bangladesh emerging victorious by 6 wickets. It is their 6th win in a row against this opposition. The series now moves to the second ODI which will be played on Friday, 22nd January, 2021. That game begins at 1130 local (0530 GMT). Till then, take care, stay safe and cheers.
  • Tamim Iqbal, Victorious Bangladesh skipper, says that they bowled well not only the spinners but even the pacers. Praises Hasan Mahmud for bowling brilliantly on his debut game. Mentions that it was a difficult wicket to bat on. He says that the wicket became difficult due to conditions. Further says that with the sun not there throughout the game the conditions of the pitch changed of what he saw before the start of the match. Ends by saying that they batted with patience on this type of wicket as it is not easy to go for attacking shots.
  • SHAKIB AL HASAN IS NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. He says that his focus was to put the ball in the right areas and the pitch and ball did the rest. He also says that he does not count the domestic games. He mentions that he batted well but he could not finish it off. Hopes to do it in the next game. He mentions that they were a bit nervous but this win should calm them down.
  • Jason Mohammed, West Indies skipper, tells that it was a disappointing batting performance. The wicket was also difficult to start as they failed to get partnerships. Also says that those who got starts failed to carry on. He says that Mayers and Powell batted brilliantly but they needed more of such type of batting. Also says that the wicket was slow and spinning a lot as they found strokemaking difficult. He mentions that Akeal was brilliant on his debut but as they did not have runs on the board they could not bowl out the opposition. Ends by saying that there are a few positives from this game which they would like to look at.
  • Earlier in the day after opting to bat, West Indies folded for a paltry total of 122 runs as none of their batsmen barring Rovman Powell and Kyle Mayers looked to come to terms with the Bangla spinners. If not for the 59-run stand between Powell and Mayers, West Indies would have ended much below of what they managed to get. With the ball for Bangladesh it was Shakib Al Hasan who went past 150 ODI wickets at home as he ended with a 4-wicket haul. The next best was Hasan Mahmud, the debutant who picked up a 3-fer to his name. Overall a complete performance saw Bangladesh outperform West Indies to take the lead in this three-match ODI series. Stay tuned for presentations as we get to know the Man of the Match and also hear from the two captains...
  • With the ball for West Indies only Chemar Holder was on the expensive side as he conceded 26 in his 3 overs. Rest all of them bowled brilliantly with Akeal Hosein being the pick of the lot with a 3-wicket haul. Jason Mohammed too had a wicket to his name. But in the end, the asking was too much for the West Indies bowlers after their batsmen fared poorly.
  • Chasing a total of 123 runs in today's fast paced cricket seems to be a walk in the park but it was not to be today. Bangladesh started with Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal. The former though looked a bit rusty in his 38-ball stay as he was troubled by the West Indian bowlers. In the end, he succumbed to a beauty from Akeal Hosein. 10 runs later Najmul Hossain Shanto too was sent packing as 47/0 became 57/2. Further to go on, Tamim Iqbal after getting his eyes in for a well made 44 was foxed by his counterpart as he too went off. Shakib Al Hasan became the third victim of Akeal Hosein. In the end, Rahim and his brother-in-law, Mahmudullah ensured that Bangladesh cross the line without any further hiccups.
  • This was always on the cards after West Indies were shot out for 122 runs. The only thing is that it would go till the 30th over was not expected but in the end the Bangla Tigers managed to overhaul the target with 4 casualties.
