Commentary
  • That is it from all of us! This also marks the end of the Men's International Cricketing Summer. Now the attention shifts to the Indian T20 League which got postponed due to the pandemic of COVID-19. Finally, it begins in UAE from 19th September 2020. Till then, take care and cheers!
  • Aaron Finch, Australian skipper, says he is happy with the team's performance. Adds that Maxwell played his natural game and did well. Mentions there was action from the first ball of the match. Finch also says that the partnership between Carey and Maxwell was terrific. Mentions it is difficult to stop Maxwell on his day.
  • Eoin Morgan, England skipper, says it has been difficult to digest this loss. Adds that they did well to recover from 0-2 and post 300 on the board. Mentions Carey and Maxwell played very well and took the match away from them. Morgan also says that guys have done well to perform and Billings has been quite exceptional. Mentions Malan did well in the T20Is and that has strengthened their squad also.
  • Glenn Maxwell is named the Man of the Match and Man of the Series. He starts by saying that he is happy with his performance. Adds that he calculated his innings and that paid off. Mentions he picked the right balls to go big and that worked. Tells that he and Carey wanted to take it deep and feels they did well to target the short boundaries. Mentions that he has played well against the pacers now as he tries to be still.
  • Earlier in the day, after opting to bat, England had a nightmarish start as they lost a couple of wickets in the first over itself bowled by Starc with the score reading nought. Then the pair of Morgan and Bairstow brought their innings on track with a 67-run stand but the advent of Adam Zampa meant the end of the road for the English skipper. After that England lost Jos Buttler cheaply but then came a 114-run stand between Jonny Bairstow and Sam Billings which changed the course of the game for the hosts. Though both departed in quick succession, Bairstow scored a ton and Billings a half-ton. The one player that propelled England past 300 runs was Chris Woakes who smashed a 39-ball 59 to see the home side cross the 300 run mark. There were many good performances with the ball as well as with the bat so who gets the player of the match as well the series. Stay tuned for the presentations.
  • England with the ball started brilliantly as they have been throughout the series. Woakes picked up a couple of early wickets but today Archer was missing his target as he failed to compliment Chris Woakes. He failed to contain the runs as well. Mark Wood coming in place of Sam Curran today was bowling at a good pace but lacked the direction as he was either too short or too full. Adil Rashid was taken for a hit by the Maxwell-Carey partnership as he could not arrest the run flow. Tom Curran was good but not the best as he too was taken for a hit. The only silver lining for England in the bowling was Joe Root's 8 overs which yielded 46 runs and also got 2 wickets, one of which was of David Warner. Otherwise, it was mediocre bowling from England today. In the fielding too, they were a bit sloppy giving away easy singles and doubles. Not the kind of bowling that was expected from them after what was seen from them in the 2nd ODI.
  • Chasing a total in excess of 300, Australia started decently but soon the demons of throwing away starts struck them as they lost wickets regularly. From 21/0, they soon went onto be 73/5 inside 20 overs. Just when it looked like that Australia have thrown the game away and will fold up quickly there emerged two power hitters for Australia in the form of Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey. The duo started going about their business, rotating the strike and hitting the bad balls to the fence and respecting the good ones. And once both of them got a reprieve, they opened up targetting the short boundary on one side to their liking. Maxwell especially liked to go over the short boundary as Carey was happy playing second fiddle to the aggressive Glenn. Soon Australia were back on track and in line with the run chase. In the process, the duo got to their respective milestones of scoring their individual 100. Both departed soon after getting to their respective tons with Australia still needing 10 off the last over. Out came the tall man, Mitchell Starc who clubbed Adil Rashid for a six and then ended the innings with a boundary with a couple of balls remaining.
  •  AUSTRALIA SNATCH VICTORY FROM THE JAWS OF DEFEAT! Finally, they have crossed their biggest hurdle. Finally, they have beaten the demons of losing from the point of victory. What a game we have had. An even contest with the bat as well as the ball. Australia are a team who are known to come hard at their opposition during deciders and crunch games and they have lived up to the expectations.
