Commentary
  • The trophy has been handed to the Australian captain and they now start celebrating. They will surely be proud of themselves now. Also, the head into the ODI series with momentum on their side. 50-over action kicks off on the 2nd of March at 1330 local (0800 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye.
  • Australian skipper, Aaron Finch, says it is a pretty special moment to win a series here in India. Credits the way Maxwell played. Ends by saying they have been building up for the World Cup, they have taken their fare share of knocks but have improved with time.
  • Man of the Series and Man of the Match, Glenn Maxwell says he feels really good. Mentions they were eager to win this series as they haven't enjoyed a lot of success in India. Further adds the amount of T20 cricket he has been playing has helped. States the wicket was really good and they were expecting it to get easier when the quicks came on towards the end. Ends by saying the responsibility was on him once D'Arcy got out and he did not let the momentum slip.
  • Indian skipper, Virat Kohli says that it was a pretty short series and they outplayed us in both games. Explains that they improved their performance here after the first T20I. Admits that 190 is a competitive total but when there is dew and when someone plays as Maxwell they always deserve to win. States that a T20 series loss does not mean much before the World Cup. Says that they wanted to experiment with the squad and will continue to do so even in the ODI series. Mentions there was a lot of dew and he won't be harsh on his bowlers. On his own batting performance the skipper says this is one pitch where the ball comes to the bat nicely and the batsman can play their shot.
  • Peter Handscomb is down on the sidelines for the interview. He says it was a pleasure to sit at the other end and witness the Maxi show. Explains the plan was to take it as deep as possible and it worked. On how high is the confidence amongst the group after this win. Handscomb states that confidence is high now going into the ODIs. Today Maxwell stood up and it will give confidence to the rest of the batting line up. On being asked how good is Glenn Maxwell, Handscomb laughs and says he is a freak then goes onto say he is very good and maturing with each game.
  • Earlier in the day, the Indians, courtesy the partnership between Kohli and Dhoni ended with 10 less than 200. The Indian skipper scored an excellent 72 but his effort was bettered by Maxwell who scored a ton and ensured India's total was not enough.
  • The Indian bowling started off well but once the dew set in, they struggled. The spinners especially as the two went for 80 in the 8 overs they bowled. Bumrah was once again economical, Shankar got two wickets but went for runs. Kaul however, had a day to forget. In the end, it was not a bowling performance they would be happy with.
  • The chase however did not begin in the best of fashion. The experiment of opening with Stoinis once again failed and Finch's poor run with the bat continued. The Aussies were struggling at 42-2 and with both the spinners yet to be introduced into the attack, the chips looked down for the Aussies. However, Maxwell and Short then played smart cricket. They somehow managed to get a boundary almost per over and revived the hopes in the Australian camp. Despite the opener falling, the Aussies did not let the pressure get to them. Maxwell found the boundary when needed and Handscomb ensured he did not let the pressure build too. The Big Show got to his ton and took Australia over the line with two balls to go.
  • What a chase did we just witness! Brilliant, just brilliant! Take a bow Glenn Maxwell. What a knock by him! Australia needed someone to play a knock of a life time when they were struggling at 22-2 and it has come from the Big Show. Yes, he has stolen the show here tonight and in some style. Credit to Short and Handscomb also. First it was the former who played a good hand with Maxwell as the two scored yet another handy stand which accounted for 73. Once the left-hander fell, it was the Peter Handscomb who played as the perfect foil to Glenn who scored a ton and gave Australia their first T20I series win in India and Kohli's first loss in a series at home as Indian captain.
