Commentary
  • That is it from here! Mumbai gets the 2 points. The next match is on Thursday where Punjab take on Bangalore in Dubai on 24th September 2020. Join us at 1800 local (1400 GMT). Till then, take care and cheers!
  •  Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma is named the Man of the Match. He starts by saying that he is happy with the team's performance. Adds that the batsmen played well and everyone contributed as a team. Mentions that they got a couple of good practice games before the tournament. Sharma also says that the side were ruthless on their display today. On his own batting, Sharma says that he backs himself to play that shot. Ongoing with three pacers, Rohit says that this pitch had something for the fast bowlers and that prompted him to take three quicks. Ends by saying it was not easy to bat with the heat out there.
  • Trent Boult is down for an interview. He starts by saying that he is comfortable to bowl but mentions that it is a bit hot out there. Further adds that bowling to Russell and Morgan is a challenge. Boult also says that the temperature here is a bit challenging than back home. Boult also says that he is happy to be a part of the Indian T20 League and is enjoying his new franchise.
  • Kolkata skipper, Dinesh Karthik, starts by saying that they had to do good with both bat and ball but they were a bit rusty out there. Mentions that the boys learnt from their mistakes. Karthik also says that Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins finished their  quarantine today. On the batting order, Karthik says that he will chat with the coach.
  •  Earlier in the day after being put in to bat by Kolkata, Mumbai raked up 195 onboard thanks to their skipper's superb knock where he smashed 80 off 54 balls. He was well assisted in the middle by Suryakumar Yadav who scored 47 and Saurabh Tiwary who made 21. Contributions from younger Pandya and Pollard took them to a total which was too much for the opposition. Kolkata bowling first were looking like amateurs as the pacers were constantly bowling short and were getting dispatched out of the park. Only Sunil Narine was the one to have conceded less than 6 runs in his four overs as rest all the bowlers were taken on a leather hunt. All in all an off day for the Kolkata team both with the bat as well as the ball. They would look to get back on track before the second game whereas, Mumbai will look to build on the momentum they got today from the win. Let's head to the presentations...
  • Mumbai finally came to the party after being beaten in their opening fixture against Chennai. They showed the Kolkata bowlers as to how to bowl on this slow surface. They were just perfect with the ball today. Trent Boult, James Pattinson, Jasprit Bumrah all stood up to the challenge and it didn't look like this is a Malinga-less Mumbai. They executed their yorkers, the slower ones and the bumpers to perfection. To add to their efforts, Rahul Chahar and the big man who also played his 150th game for Mumbai today, Kieron Pollard did exceptionally well with the ball. Pollard bowled 3 overs and gave away 21 runs along with a wicket. In the end, a complete team effort in the field from Mumbai as Hardik Pandya though did not bowl, did not contribute much with the bat but was seen on the field taking catches and saving runs for his team.
  •  Mumbai continue their dominance over Kolkata as they win the game comfortably. With this, they open their win account too. Kolkata chasing 196 runs were never comfortable in the middle. They lost two early wickets in the Powerplay. Since then they failed to recover as they lacked partnerships. Nitish Rana looked a bit promising but the mounting run-rate pressure consumed him. Skipper Dinesh Karthik too could not add much to the total despite coming one down in the batting order. Morgan and Russell too struggled to get adjusted to the pace of the wicket which was on the slower side. In the end, both departed without any substantial contributions. In the end, some few lusty blows from Pat Cummins helped Kolkata achieve some respectability with the score. Overall a poor display of batting from them which they would like to rectify before going ahead in the tournament.
