Commentary
  • Right then, that is all we have from this series. The trophy is handed to Nicholas Pooran and he now joins his teammates to pose for some photos with that shining trophy. It is a perfect start for this young West Indies team under the leadership of Nicholas Pooran. They will be travelling next to Pakistan and the first ODI starts on Wednesday, 8th of June while Netherlands will take on England at home in an ODI series which starts on the 17th of June. However, you don’t have to wait for quality cricket action for that long just switch tabs and enjoy the beauty of Test cricket as England and New Zealand fight it out in Lord’s on the third day of the first Test match. Cheers!
  • Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of West Indies, says that he is very pleased to win with a new team and to win 3-0. Adds that he is happy with all the guys, everyone stuck to the plans, he is happy with the spinners as well. Mentions that Netherlands put on a great show, they stole the game away from them but they fought back well and capitalized on the moments. Says that the fans here have made the victory special for them.
  • Pieter Seelaar, the skipper of Netherlands, says that they played well in patches and adds that they had a proper chance in this game and a little bit of inexperience cost the game in the end. Tells that he is very disappointed to lose in this game and in the position they were at the end of 25 overs they should have won this game and they kind of deserved 10 points. Tells that Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd played well throughout the series and they probably lost the game from the overs between 35 to 40.
  • Akeal Hosein is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES! He says that he is very pleased with his effort on this batting-friendly wicket. He credits Nicholas Pooran for his decision-making. Says that Pooran made the right changes at the right time. Concludes by saying that he is ready to put his hand up whenever the team requires it.
  • Kyle Mayers is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant knock of 120 off just 106 balls. He says that it was a good feeling, he always wanted to a century and he is really happy about it. Mentions that he tries to cherish the opportunities he gets and opening the batting was an opportunity and he is happy he made it count. Adds that it was his first time in Netherlands and his time here has been great. He hopes that he can open the batting along with Shai Hope in the near future as well.
  • Time for the presentation...
  • Netherlands will be ruining the fact that they did not manage to chase down this total despite having wickets in hand for the majority of this chase. However, this series will be a big learning curve for them as to how to build their innings in the middle overs and they certainly did better in the middle overs than they did in the previous two games. West Indies had two debutants in this game and both had a decent outing with Seales taking one wicket and Shermon Lewis finishing things off with three wickets. Overall, this series has turned out to be quite a productive one for West Indies and a major learning curve for the Dutch ahead of their series against England.
  • West Indies, riding on twin hundreds by Mayers and Brooks managed to put a big score on the board. The Dutch bowlers did well in the death overs with the ball but a chase of over 300 was always going to be tough. However, Netherlands started brightly with the bat and Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd put on a 98 runs opening stand. Singh departed after scoring fifty in the 18th over and it was always going to be that middle phase that was going to decide the outcome of this game. Max O'Dowd who batted fluently in the first 15-16 overs suddenly went into his shell as the fear of losing wickets in clusters in middle overs was looming large. Musa Ahmad and Bas de Leede at the other ends played good run-a-ball innings but sadly they could not carry on and Max O'Dowd failed to up the ante. Max departed in the 43rd over on a score of 89 off 121 balls with his team needing 10 runs per over in the last 7 overs. Akeal Hosein was once again the star who got two big wickets of Max O'Dowd and Bas de Leede. Once, Max O'Dowd departed it was too much for other batters, and in the end, West Indies clinched this game by 20 runs.
  • West Indies have clinched the series by a 3-0 margin and Netherlands' search for a first ODI win against West Indies continues.  Have to say, though, that West Indies were made to toil hard in every game of this series and Netherlands have only improved as this series has progressed. However, West Indies have still managed to bag all 30 points of the ICC World Cup Super League from this series and they will be mighty pleased with the performance of this young team under Nicholas Pooran.
