1. The series is based on the red-light district of Lahore’s Heera Mandi. The world literally means diamon market in Urdu. 

2. Heeramandi is named after Heera Singh's son, Dhian Singh Dogra, who was the Prime Minister of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.  The place was initially a grain market called Hira di Mandi during the British rule. However, it later turned into a center of tawaif (courtesan) during the Mughal era.

3. During the 15th and 16th centuries, Mughals started bringing women from other countries including Afghanistan and Uzbekistan to perform classical Indian dances like Kathak to be entertained, and soon the place turned into a tawaif (courtesan) centre.

4. After Ahmad Shah Abdali's invasion, the area became a hub for prostitution

5. It is said that Heera Mandi still exits in Pakistan and is a prostitution hub. During the day time, it looks like an ordinary market that sells food andmusical instruments among other things. However, at night, the brothels are opened and prostitution business starts.
