Heeramandi: Internet Is Unhappy With Sharmin Segal's Casting
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi was eagerly anticipated. The series has now been available on Netflix, and while fans are raving about how 'grand and luxurious' it is, they are also dissatisfied with the cast. Sharmin Segal, whom we also know as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's niece, has come under fire for her 'expressionless' acting.
One wrote, “#Heeramandi was a good watch. It could’ve been a masterpiece had someone else played Alam’s role. Sharmin Segal is the reason why nepotism debate exists. Sub par. The last episode was rather underwhelming. It felt like SLB didn’t know what to do with the number of episodes given.”
Another added, “#Heeramandi I am in my 7th episode and I am here to say that I can’t stand the sight of @sharminsegal for a minute especially irritated by her monotonic expression for every single feeling of alam, such a miscast considering all other beautiful performances.. show is a bit lag.”
A fourth went on to add, “Sharmin segal can't even give one single expression properly.”

Another added, “Sharmin Segal has learnt acting from Lee Strasberg Film Institute?
Goes to show that an institution doesn't play a major role in shaping you until you take the goddamn effort to learn (in her case, learn acting).”

According to a part of the internet, Sharmin got the role only because ‘nepotism came into play’. Sharmin has disabled comments on her most recent post, which has a photo of her posing with Sanjay Leela Bhansali at the Los Angeles premiere of Heeramandi, in response to the relentless trolling she has received on social media.
The period drama series, which marks filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Netflix debut, is one of the streaming service's most anticipated releases. The cast includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Shaikh.
The big-budget show, which released on May 1, is set in pre-Independence India and follows the lives of courtesans in Lahore's red-light district, Heeramandi.
For the unversed, Sharmin made her acting debut in Bhansali's production 'Malaal' in 2019. Meezan Jafri also starred in the film. Sharmin, who had worked as an assistant director for Bhansali on productions such as Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Gangubai Kathiawadi, went on to star in the horror comedy 'Atithi Bhooto Bhava'.
