These Are Photos Of The Same Dog, Two Years Apart

A dog has gone viral on social media for how its looks changed in a matter of two years. The dog, Buster now looks completely white as against the pitch black it was born with. In fact, Buster now looks so different to the point that it is impossible to recognise it from past photos.

Dog started changing colour in 2021

The story of Buster went viral on Reddit after its owner, Matt Smith shared a set of photos showing its looks from 2021 and now. According to Smith, it was in late 2021 when Buster was only 2 years old he started noticing some changes in how the dog looked.

Diagnosed with vitiligo

It started with white patches around his eyes and chin and it slowly started spreading. Worried something was wrong, Smith took the dog to a vet, who diagnosed it with vitiligo, a rare disease that causes loss of skin color in patches. In less than nine months, his face was almost covered in white. 

"My dog Buster has the skin condition vitiligo. It causes depigmentation of the skin (and fur). The left photo is from 9 months ago," Smith wrote on Reddit some two-and-a-half years ago when he started documenting the dog's transformation.

White patches kept spreading

As time passed, it only got worse for Buster.

 “He would lose his black fur and new white fur would come in. So there was a point in time where he was balding in areas until his fresh fluffy white fur grew in,” Smith noted.

No longer a black dog 

Earlier this month Smith provided another update on Buster, who is now four years old.

"My boy Buster has completely changed from black to white over the course of the last 2.5 years," he wrote on Reddit.

Smith also posted a series of photos showing how Buster went from black to being fully white.

Many on Reddit were left stunned by Buster's transformation and noted that if Smith had not shown the transition, they would have never believed it.
