2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift launch in May: What's new in India's beloved hatch

The wait for the much-anticipated 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is nearing its end as the manufacturer is gearing up to debut the fourth-gen Swift in India sometime in May. The facelifted avatar of the model has already been launched overseas and features a host of upgrades over the outgoing model. However, it is likely that the India-spec model might get some additional upgrades to suit the driving conditions on our shores.
Here, let’s take a look at what we can expect from the refreshed hatch.

2024 Swift: Design

The new Swift features a refreshed design, including a redesigned front bumper and a new grille, along with updated headlamps and LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The Suzuki logo is now positioned prominently at the top of the bonnet, while on the sides, it gets newly-designed dual-tone alloy wheels. Notable updates also include blacked-out ORVMs, roof, and pillars.

Moving to the rear end, there's a redesigned tailgate and a new bumper with a skid plate underneath. Additionally, it features an integrated rear spoiler with a stop lamp, LED tail lights with distinctive C-shaped DRLs. However, it is likely that the India-spec Swift won’t be exactly the same as the one sold overseas and might feature a slightly different bumper and some other tweaks here and there.

2024 Swift: Features

The cabin is expected to receive a significant upgrade in terms of technology and comfort. The new Swift might borrow inspiration from Maruti Suzuki 's Baleno and Fronx models, featuring a larger touchscreen infotainment system.

In terms of safety, the global Swift gets six airbags, a tyre pressure monitor, and ABS with EBD and brake assist. It also has electronic stability control and hill hold control for better handling on slopes. Plus, it comes with advanced features like lane keeping assist, blind spot monitor, adaptive cruise control, and warning systems for lane departure. However, the ADAS suite is something that the Indian customers might not get.

2024 Swift: Engine

The Swift available in Japan features a new Z-series 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol motor that produces 82 hp and 108 Nm of torque. It uses a CVT transmission. There's also a mild-hybrid version with a DC synchronous motor that adds 3.1 hp and 60 Nm of torque. In terms of fuel efficiency, the standard Swift and the mild-hybrid model can travel 23.4 kmpl and 24.5 kmpl, respectively, as per the WLTP cycle. It remains to be seen if the India-spec model will get hybrid tech or not.
