New Maruti Swift vs old model: Design, interior, feature changes explained

Maruti Suzuki India is all set to launch the next-generation Swift hatchback in the Indian market. The company calls the new Swift a fourth-generation model, but it is essentially a heavily updated version of the third-gen platform with a new design, an all-new engine and an updated interior layout with new features. In this article, let’s take a look at the changes between the new and old Maruti Suzuki Swift .

Design changes

The new Swift features a re-designed front bumper and a new grille with chunky black surrounds and it also features re-designed smoked LED headlamps with DRLs. Below it gets the revised fog lamp housing with splitter.

The clamshell bonnet is a lot shallower and at the sides, the door handles for the rear doors are back to their conventional location, instead of on the C-pillar. At the rear, it gets a re-designed tailgate and a new bumper with a skid plate below. Other highlights include an integrated rear spoiler with a stop lamp, LED taillights with C-shaped DRLs and reflectors below. Other highlights include blacked-out ORVMs, roofs and pillars. It also features prominent character lines running across the door panels.

Interior and features

Moving inside, the interior of the new Swift takes inspiration from Baleno and Fronx. It gets a new dashboard layout with a floating infotainment system with sleek AC vents and HVAC controls below. Other expected features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, connected car tech, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate controls and other convenience features.

The international spec Swift will also get features such as a 360-degree camera and multiple ADAS features such as dual sensor brake support, adaptive high beam assist, driver monitoring system, and collision mitigation braking system. The Indian-spec is not expected to come with all these features. However, Maruti might offer six airbags and many other safety features as standard across all variants.

Engine

The biggest change on the new Swift is on the powertrain front. The new Swift will be powered by an all-new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder , naturally aspirated petrol engine that’ll replace the existing K12 four-cylinder engine. Detailed specifications haven’t been revealed yet but it’s expected to have more than 85 hp of Power and 110 nm torque. Gearbox options will include a 5-speed manual or an AMT .

After the launch of the new Swift, the company will soon launch the Dzire. The sedan was spotted testing for the first time a few days ago and the spied images reveal it sporting a segment-first electric sunroof. The new Maruti Dzire will be based on the fourth-generation Swift hatchback and will feature a similar front-end design with the same dashboard layout. As per the spied images, the upright silhouette of the new Dzire looks similar to the existing model and the front end too looks similar to the next-gen Swift.

The front-end design will be in line with the new Swift but it might get a different grille and front re-designed bumper. On the sides, it is expected to get minor tweaks with sharp cuts and creases, it will also get newly designed 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Moving rear, it’s expected to get a re-designed tailgate with LED lighting and a tweaked rear bumper.
