Toyota Fortuner mild hybrid revealed with more power and efficiency: Details

Japanese automaker Toyota has revealed the Toyota Fortuner with mild hybrid tech in South Africa . The new Fortuner shares the mild hybrid tech with the Hilux mild hybrid pick-up which was revealed last year. As mentioned previously, the SUV has made its debut in South Africa and is expected to go on sale in other markets soon.

The Fortuner mild hybrid is powered by the same tried and tested 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine . This is now paired with a 48V mild hybrid system which provides an additional 16hp and 42Nm for a total output of 201hp and 500Nm of torque. The company claims that the mild hybrid model is 5 per cent more fuel-efficient than the standard model.



Toyota also claims that the new mild hybrid model has better throttle response and it also gets idle start-stop feature with smoother engine restart. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed torque converter gearbox as standard and has both, 4x2 and 4x4 variants on offer. In terms of features, the Fortuner MHEV additionally gets the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitor, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist and forward collision warning. It also gets a 360-degree camera, along with some minor changes done to the interior.

In terms of design, the Fortuner mild hybrid looks very similar to the Fortuner Legendrr sold here in India. But it gets a 48V logo on the boot. Other highlights include 18-inch alloy wheels, sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps blacked out front grille, ORVMs and more. The Fortuner mild hybrid in Africa is also offered with more vibrant colour options.
