Tower Of God: Why Does Ja Wangnan Have Jahad's Ring? Who Is He Really?

Hero Image

Tower of God Season 2 premiered in July 2024 and garnered positive response. An interesting aspect of the second season certainly was the change in POV.

We might have hoped to get answers regarding what Bam is up to, especially after Rachel betrayed him at the end of Season 1.

Instead, we are introduced to a new character Ja Wangnan, a regular on the 20th floor trying his best to clear the test to become and E-rank and advance up the Tower.

Though he seems inconsequential and weak, we can say for sure that cringelord-Pokémon-master Wangnan is a character who will be playing a very important role in Tower of God.

And adding to the mystery of the character is a ring he possesses – a red one with the crest of three red eyes. There has been enough focus on the ring since the first episode.

However, it is not until Jue Viole Grace mentions the identity of the ring that questions surrounding who Ja Wangnan really arise.

According to what Viole said at the bathhouse, Wangnan is in possession of Jahad’s ring. Webtoon fans might have immediately recognized the crest on the ring as Jahad’s symbol.

But why is the ring so important, and why does Ja Wangnan have it? Let’s take a look at the possibilities.

Fair warning: Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t read the webtoon!

What is Jahad’s ring?

The importance of Jahad’s ring lies in its connection to the Tower’s secrets and Jahad himself. The ring is believed to have been created from half of the key to the Tower, the other half being used to create the 13 Month Series.

The key in question is supposed to open the doors to the higher floors of the Tower which King Jahad did not conquer. Since he didn’t want anyone else conquering those floors, he is believed to have hid the key and converted them into their said forms.

Rachel, who had knowledge of these rings, believes that they could be the key to defeating Jahad and his immortality. She suggests that the ring bearers climbing the Tower together could open the doors to the next floor.

So, this establishes that the ring in itself is a very important item. There are only two of such crimson rings that have been shown in the Tower of God series till now. And one of them belongs to Ja Wangnan.

Naturally, this raises questions about Wangnan’s identity and why he possesses such a ring.

Why does Wangnan have Jahad’s ring?

While it is not officially confirmed in Tower of God webtoon yet, it is believed that Ja Wangnan has the blood of Jahad and that’s why he possesses Jahad’s ring

.

According to Rachel (in chapter 229) Wangnan has the blood of Jahad. But, the main bits connecting Wangnan to Jahad and the ring actually come in chapter 263, which also reveals his backstory.

Newspoint

Wangnan’s backstory and how he got the ring:

While conversing with Karaka, the only other person who is shown to have the Ring of Jahad, Wangnan reveals that he is actually from the Red Light District.

This is where things get interesting. Wangnan doesn’t really know who his parents are. However, he was raised by a nanny who kept calling him ‘Prince’.

Though Wangnan thought of the nanny as his real mother, she always rejected that notion saying that she could never dare be the mother of ‘a prince’.

Wangnan never believed her claims, however, when he turned ten years old, the nanny gave him Jahad’s ring saying that it was a token which prove that he really is the prince.

Newspoint

The biggest hint which might prove Wangnan is related to Jahad? Well, on her deathbed, the nanny mentions that Wangnan was the ‘king’s seed’. That is a vague statement in itself. However, if we read it together with the ring, then it strongly points to the fact that Wangnan could indeed be Jahad’s son.

But then, the Jahad family is only shown to have princesses, and no official prince. So it remains to be seen if he is really a prince, or if Wangnan is related to Jahad in some other manner.

An interesting hint from the anime:

Another reference, which many might have missed, came in the first episode of Tower of God season 2 itself. After her meeting with Yuri Jahad, Repellista mentions that the Prince of Jahad will return soon.

The first person they show during this dialogue is Jue Viole Grace (who is Bam). However, the scene immediately cuts to Jahad’s ring, which is worn by Wangnan.

I caught this detail on a rewatch, and it is a nice play of words to foreshadow that Wangnan indeed is related to Jahad in some way.

This detail was not included in the webtoon, but was part of the anime. An intentional hint from the staff members working on the series probably?

The Prince of Red Light District and Jahad’s biggest mistake:

The next big hint comes from FUG’s shady guide Hwa Ryun, who calls him the Prince of the Red Light District. He was called the same name by Rachel too. That makes it two people with FUG affiliations to call him by that name.

These very people also refer to him as a Jahad’s biggest mistake and also his fatal weakness respectively.

Newspoint

As I mentioned above, Jahad is only known to have princesses officially. However, they are not related to him by blood. These are women from the 10 families who are potentially considered to be strong enough to bear Jahad children.

Basically, Jahad has been refraining from fathering a heir. But, what if, he accidently did end up having children and Wangnan was one of those. I mean, he does look like an exact copy of Jahad, with the yellow hair and facial structure.

This would explain why he is called a fatal weakness and a big mistake.

Since the FUG is privy to a lot of information regarding the Tower, they could have known Wangnan’s identity all along.

While Wangnan being related to Jahad is most believable theory, there are also other interesting assumptions which suggest Wangnan might be a clone of Jahad, or a part that Jahad split from himself.
