Yukimura Confirms Vinland Saga Manga Will End With Chapter 220 This July
Author Makoto Yukimura took to X on June 20, 2025, to confirm that his manga Vinland Saga will indeed end with chapter 220 which will release in July.
The manga will be on a hiatus this month.
Yukimura’s announcement comes after leaks had started circulating online about the Vinland Saga‘s conclusion. He was surprised that fans already knew about the big update and apologized for the late announcement on his part.
“Do all the fans already know about the hiatus this month and the final chapter?! You guys are incredible…
My apologies for the late announcement. The Vinland Saga serialization will be on break this month, and the final chapter, chapter 220, will be released next month on July 25th. An announcement about this will appear in this month’s issue of Monthly Afternoon
Yukimura further elaborated, saying that Vinland Saga is on a hiatus this month because he couldn’t finish the manuscripts of the chapter in time.
He apologized to fans for the frequent breaks, and added that the final chapter was really difficult to draw and that it was taking a long time to finish.
“I’m so sorry, I couldn’t make the deadline for this month’s manuscript… I am currently drawing the final chapter. My sincere apologies for taking so many breaks, but this will be the last hiatus. The final chapter is so hard! For some reason, the drawing process is taking a lot of time, too! I’ll do my best
Yukimura had been constantly giving updates on X about the manga coming to an end soon, and noting how hard it was for him to write a satisfying conclusion.
The author had originally intended Vinland Saga, which he started serializing in 2005, to run for a period of 10 years. However, he later said that he had underestimated the length of the story.
As of June 2024, the manga chapters have been collected into 28 tankobon volumes.
Yukimura has also hinted that he might work on a sci-fi project after Vinland Saga ends. He however stated that he won’t be starting it anytime soon.
A 24-episode anime television series adaptation, animated by Wit Studio, aired on NHK General TV from July to December 2019. A second season, animated by MAPPA, aired from January to June 2023.
