Hyundai India Market Share Crosses 20%; Thanks to Kia Seltos

  • Hyundai Group market share jumped by 4.52 percent due to Kia Seltos.
  • Kia sold a whooping 12850 units of Seltos in October 2019.
  • Hyundai has 33.88 percent stakes in Kia Motors.

Hyundai Group India has always worked towards achieving the coveted title of India's number one car manufacturer in the passenger vehicle segment.

The South-Korean automaker hasn't tasted much success yet due to the sheer dominance of Maruti Suzuki and always had to settle for the second spot behind MSIL. But, things have started to change now and Hyundai Group is inching towards its target, courtesy the overwhelming response for Seltos, which is its sister brand Kia's first offering in the Indian market.

Going by the October 2019 sales figures of Kia Seltos, the Hyundai Group has extended its market share by 4.5 percent. For the first time ever, the Hyundai Group in India was able to surpass the 20 percent market share milestone.

Carmakers Market Share October 2019

To simplify things: Hyundai India sold a total of 50,010 units in Oct 2019, thus having a market share of 17.58 percent and Kia Motors sold 12850 units of Seltos with a market share of 4.52 percent. So the combined market share of the Hyundai Group reached 22.10 percent for the first time.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki's market share and sales numbers are almost more than double than Hyundai but a gain of 4.5 percent is no small feat. Kia Seltos was the Group's second best seller behind the i20 which clocked sales of 14,683 units in October 2019.

Hyundai and Kia have planned a plethora of new launches for the Indian market in the coming months including premium MPVs, sub-compact SUV and new-gen models for several older products (Hyundai). For those not aware, Hyundai Motor Group has 33.88 percent stakes in Kia Motors.
