Hyundai is all set to unveil its upcoming compact SUV codenamed QXi in India on April 17, 2019. The first ever compact SUV from Hyundai will be previewed at the New York motor show in the same month. Hyundai QXi or Styx is expected to be part of Korean car giant’s global line-up. As for the India-spec Hyundai QXi, it could vary from the international model in terms of styling. In India, the compact SUV is expected to launch by mid-May 2019. Hyundai is yet to confirm if the QXi compact SUV will carry over the Styx badge, or will it get a new nameplate.

A teaser image of the camouflaged QXi was also released days before by Hyundai, in a bid to create buzz about the upcoming compact SUV. While the teaser image does not divulge much details, a lot has been unravelled about the model’s styling by now. That said, Hyundai’s first compact SUV for India will have a squared-out shape. It wouldn’t be wrong to call it mini-Creta going by the shape, albeit styling will be done in tandem with new-age Hyundai with elements such as slit-like LED strips above headlamps and cascading grille accentuating the front look. Test mules have been spotted sporting diamond cut alloy wheels and LED tail-lamps, which are likely to be retained in the production spec model.

Interior styling on the Hyundai QXi will be done in line with other Hyundai models, hence expect use of high-quality materials for top-notch fit and finish. Expect Hyundai QXi to pack a long list of features such as sunroof (visible in the teaser), segment-first ventilated seats and a large touchscreen infotainment system supported by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Talking of the engine set-up, the India-spec Hyundai QXi will be offered with two petrol and one diesel unit. The petrol range will get a 1.4-litre unit good for 100 hp, this engine will be paired to a six-speed manual gearbox.

On the other hand, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will be coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, which will make it the only model in the segment to offer dual-clutch option. Diesel variants in the line-up will get a 1.4-litre oil burner under the hood. This engine is estimated to put out maximum power of 90 hp. In India, the compact SUV will rival the likes of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300 primarily.
