Maruti Suzuki India Axes 1.3L Diesel Engine from Ertiga

  • The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga range is now available with a 1.5L petrol and diesel engines. 

  • The 1.5L diesel engine will be discontinued before BS6 emission norms kick in.

  • A CNG version was recently added to the line-up. 

As the deadline for imposing BS6 emission norms is nearing, carmakers are gearing up to transit from the current BS4 standards to the stricter norms. In line with its plans to axe diesel-powered versions of its popular models, Maruti Suzuki has removed the 1.3L oil burner from Maruti Ertiga range. The Fiat-sourced diesel unit, available in two states of tunes-75hp and 90hp, powers a number of Maruti cars. 

It has been a part of Ertiga line-up ever since its launch in the country in April 2012. With 1.3L unit gone, the MPV is now available with a 1.5-litre SHVS petrol engine. This unit comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 4-speed torque converter.

In addition, there is a 95hp, 1.5L diesel engine that will also be discontinued before April 1, 2020.  Maruti has already launched the BS6 version of Ertiga, available with a single 1.5L petrol engine priced at Rs 7.55 lakh. In addition to petrol and diesel variants, the MPV is also offered with a CNG version priced at Rs 8.88 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
