Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV price below Rs 7 lakh expected
Maruti Suzuki’s electric offering – the WagonR EV is set to arrive in 2020 and in terms of the price aspect, it is expected to be introduced at a price tag below Rs 7 lakh. Interestingly, the price would cover certain subsidies introduced for electric and hybrid vehicles under the scheme – Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric (FAME), which was rolled out by the government of India.
Going by the present subsidy norms and post total subsidies, the WagonR EV on-road price should touch approximately Rs 7.5 lakh price tag, if sources are to be believed. However, as the Maruti WagonR EV launch date approaches, there could be a change in prices as the ‘FAME 2’ is likely to take effect imminently. As per the present subsidy layout, the WagonR EV could be subsidised to as much as Rs 1.24–1.38 lakh, which is again bound to change, if FAME 2 is pressed into effect.
Surprisingly, the cut in costs of almost 25% along with a phenomenal capacity of one-charge-range of running more than 200 kms could majorly catapult electric vehicles in the country and possibly set the standard for more new EVs to be later introduced in India. And it is inevitable majorly so because, in the beginning, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV price was likely to be pegged around Rs 10 lakh or more.
