MG ZS Electric SUV Teased Ahead of India Launch - Video

  • MG’s second product for India after the Hector SUV will be another SUV.

  • The ZS is an electric SUV and not a hybrid.

  • The range is expected to be around 260km on a full charge.

MG will set up home charging points at an additional cost.

  • MG dealerships in the metros will have fast chargers installed.

  • MG’s second product for India has been revealed, and it is an electric SUV. The ZS EV is an all-electric version of a regular petrol-powered SUV called the ZS that retails globally under the MG brand

The ZS EV’s styling is different, to distinguish it from its internal combustion sibling. It gets a different grille, different alloy wheel design, and EV badging. Under the fuel filler flap is a charging port and not a fuel filler neck, of course. Power is derived from a 143bhp, 353Nm electric motor which will drive the front wheels. A 44.5kWh battery pack will store the electricity required to run it. The range in the WLTP test cycle is 262km on a full charge. However, with a 7kW AC power supply, the battery takes 7 hours to charge up to the maximum. This can be shortened with the use of a 50kW DC fast charger that will juice it up to 80 percent in 40 minutes. MG has plans to install these fast chargers at their dealerships in the four metros – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad. They will also provide a home charger, but at additional cost.

The MG ZS EV SUV is expected to launch in early 2020 and is expected to be priced around the Rs 25 lakh mark. It will no electric competition as such but will jostle for position with a number of very popular SUVs and MPVs at that price, like the Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner, and Ford Endeavour
