After IPL 'umpire-controversy' hits World Cup, Chris Gayle's wicket under scanner
After the Indian Premier League, umpire-controversy hits World Cup 2019 as Chris Gaffaney failed to notice a no-ball. Chris Gayle was given out on what should have been a free-hit ball. In the 5th over of the second innings, Australian bowler Mitchell Starc overstepped while bowling which umpire failed to notice.
The should be no-ball was timed at 151.5 kph which was close to the fastest ball of World Cup so far. The very next ball was a yorker and hit Chris Gayle’s pad, the umpire raised his finger. Chris Gayle went for a review and the replay showed the ball clipping leg stump on umpire's call and Gayle was sent back to the pavilion.
The umpires in the IPL were also under scanner after they made some bad decisions while standing on the field. The umpiring was so controversial that even MS Dhoni lost his cool and had to step out in the middle of a game to argue with them. During a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, a bad decision cost Virat Kohli's team two points as the umpire failed to notice a no-ball in the last over of the game.
As far as the match is concerned, West Indies did a good job in restricting Australia under 300 runs. Australia was bundled out for 288 in 49 overs.
