This 74-year old prime minister qualifies for archery at Pacific Games 2019
Samoa prime minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has qualified for the archery competition at Pacific Games 2019. The 74-year old prime minister last fired an arrow when Samoa held the games 12 years ago. The prime minister made the national archery team after succeeding at the trials.
Samoa is a small island country located in Oceania, it consists of two main islands, Savai’i and Upolu and the capital city is Apia.
Malielegaoi won a silver medal before and said that he wanted to go one better this time. “We need to practice as often as possible to improve our shooting style. We know the techniques and we need to perfect our techniques,” Malielegaoi was quoted as saying by Dailymail.
“It's the same techniques that we also used in the last Games that were held here, and we believe strongly in the principle that practice makes perfect,” Malielegaoi added.
Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi has been prime minister of Samoa since 1998, he is an economist by profession. Malielegaoi obtained a master's from the University of Auckland, becoming the first Samoan to receive a master's degree in commerce.
The Pacific Games will start from July 7 and will go till July 20. Athletes from countries around the Pacific sea will compete against each other in 27 sports.
