Roza Tips: Ramadan is starting from March 22, follow this guideline of WHO to stay healthy during fasting

The special time of the year i.e. Ramadan (Ramadan 2023) has almost come. The biggest festival of the Islam community is about to be celebrated. Muslims across the country celebrate Ramadan, the holy month of the Islamic calendar, by fasting from sunrise to sunset. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated after one month of fasting.

During Ramadan, Muslims cannot eat during the time between sunrise and sunset. That's why they start their fast by having food before sunrise and then breaking their fast after sunset. Traditionally, three dates are involved in breaking the fast, which is followed by a feast.

This year, Ramzan will begin on March 22 and end on April 21, when the crescent moon will be seen in the sky. As we gear up to celebrate a month full of festivities, here are some important health information and guidelines issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) during fasting to help you stay healthy throughout the month.

Drinking water: The fast begins with sahur - a meal eaten before sunrise and ends with iftar - a feast taken to break the fast after sunset. Between before sunrise and after sunset, we must remember to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated throughout, so that the body does not dehydrate and gets the nutrients it is lacking.

Fruits: Eating fruits and vegetables with high water content will help hydrate the body and keep it healthy.

Cool and Shady Place: Along with fasting for at least 15 to 16 hours, it is important to stay in a cool and shady place to keep the body hydrated and healthy.

Sahar: Fasting is started just before sunrise by taking Sahar i.e. breakfast. To boost the body with energy, it is very important to include food containing vegetables, carbohydrates and proteins.

Sweets: It is also advised to avoid eating sweets in large quantities after iftar. The intake of foods rich in fat should also be limited.

Fried Foods: To keep the body healthy throughout Ramadan, it has been advised to reduce fried foods and take fried foods.
