India, France create road map on 5G risks, rollout

Paris: India and France have agreed to work together on risks associated with 5G deployment and technical solutions to deal with them. The two countries concluded a road map for the same at a summit between PM Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron near here on Thursday.

While the US has offered to work with India on developing 5G technology in collaboration with Japan, the road map with France is India’s first initiative with a partner abroad.

The two nations also highlighted the risks due to circulation of manipulated information, fake news and profiling of personal data.

The two sides called for an international exchange on this threat, particularly on the development of a framework to regulate social media platforms.

India and France also decided to make digital technology a transformative factor in their societies, fight terror, foster growth, development and bridge the digital divide.
