Agra: A surprise inspection by the chief medical officer (CMO) on Wednesday revealed poor state of healthcare services in rural areas of the district.

During the inspection at a community health centre (CHC) in Pinahat block of the district, officer found no doctor on duty at 9:30 am. Paramedical staff was also missing. Around a dozen patients were found suffering on floor at the out-patient department (OPD), waiting for treatment. Besides, the entire CHC complex was found in an untidy state. Bio-medical waste was not disposed properly.

And there were complaints aplenty. A new mother complained to the CMO that she was not provided anything to eat after delivery. Other patients also complained about lack of facility and use of foul language by the staffers. Following inspection, the CMO ordered a day’s pay cut of the doctors and para-medical staff on duty at the CHC.

CMO Mukesh Kumar Vats said, “The CHC in-charge has been directed to provide clarification over mismanagement which surfaced during the inspection. Patients had a lot of complaint. The overall situation of health care services at CHC was very poor.”

“Orders have been given for deduction of a day’s salary of all the staffers. An inspection report will be prepared and sent to higher authorities for further action,” he added.
