Docs, staff not to leave main OT during duty hours: AIIMS director

AIIMS DelhiNew Delhi: After cracking the whip on contractual employees in a bid to improve efficiency in patient care and management, the newly appointed director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Dr M Srinivas, has ordered doctors and staff not to leave the main operation theatre during their duty hours for seeking consultation or medicines from Employee Health Scheme (EHS) for themselves or their friends and relatives.

This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Srinivas on Tuesday in order to streamline workflows in main OT. The meeting was attended by Peush Sahni, head of GI surgery and chairperson OT user’s committee, Lokesh Kashyap, head of anaesthesiology, officer-in-charge of main OT, DNS main OT and nursing representatives from the main OT.

The mechanism of individual EHS requisition of doctors and staff, their mapping with the EHS portal and disbursement of medicines will be streamlined in a week’s time.

The order further stated anaesthesiology will allocate one senior resident with immediate effect for posting in main OT for giving consultations and prescribing medicines to doctors and staff of main OT. The EHS facility point will be set up there so no one has to leave the main OT for EHS consultation.

Other decisions that were taken during the meeting included streamlining the patient traffic movements in the main OT with access control through facial recognition on entry points and radio frequency identification tag (electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects) on the lift, along with clear restriction on entry of unauthorised persons in main OT.

Besides, no private vendor or company person will be allowed to enter and carry their bags inside the main OT.
