Patanjali says in “complete compliance of laws”; denies receiving notice from USFDA

Baba Ramdev promoted Patanjali Ayurved said Tuesday it is in “complete compliance of prevailing laws of respective countries”, reacting to media reports that said the US Food and Drug Administration has claimed Patanjali has separate production and packaging areas for exported and domestic products.

“Patanjali Ayurved follows full compliance for packaging and labelling of its products as per ayurvedic norms in India and US specifications,” the company said in a media statement.
“Since the USFDA audit in 2018 till date, neither Patanjali Ayurved has received any notice pertaining to claims on sorbet from USFDA, nor Patanjali sorbet’s sale has been banned by the US Government or FDA in the US,” the statement read.

The statement added that it follow a “zero-tolerance policy” on quality issues.

Media reports earlier this week said labels on Patanjali's two sharbat products, earmarked to be sold within India, were found to be having "additional medicinal and dietary market claims" compared to the ones on bottles set aside for export to America.

Food safety laws in the US are far more strict compared to Indian laws. If the company is found to be selling a misbranded product in the US, the USFDA can stall imports of the product.
