Chennai: Rainbow Children’s Hospital, Chennai in association with Sankara Nethralaya has launched a niche and advanced eye care facility which will expertise in diagnosis and eye treatment for children.

Dr T.S. Surendran, Vice-Chairman, Sankara Nethralaya inaugurated the facility which will provide services ranging from retinopathy of prematurity screening and management including anti-VEGF therapy, pediatric ophthalmological emergency and OPD services, refractory errors in children, squint, congenital cataract and tumours amongst other eye treatments.

Pediatric ophthalmology is now universally recognized as a specific sub-specialty. Ophthalmic care of children is no longer something that general ophthalmologists can perform in adjunct to their predominantly adult clinical practice. It is instead delivered in dedicated pediatric ophthalmology clinics run by teams with expertise in childcare and development.

"This move will strengthen the development pediatric programme run by Rainbow Children’s Hospital, making it more comprehensive by adding a unique facility to the existing infrastructure," the hospital added in a statement.
