Work towards blending traditional knowledge with modern research: PM Modi to IIT Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked Indian Institute of Technology IIT-Guwahati to work in the direction of blending traditional knowledge and modern research and set up Centre for Indian knowledge.

Addressing the 22nd convocation of IIT Guwahati virtually, he said, “As the region witnesses flood and earthquake and industrial disaster, IIT Guwahati must set up Centre for disaster management and risk reduction.”

He asked the researchers to research on how to mitigate these disasters for substantial time and energy of states governments is spent in dealing with this disasters. “The region has challenges and resources. Researchers can look at solar, wind, biomass and hydro power potential of this region. The region has huge potential for there is abundance of rice, tea and bamboo.”

He added that there is a traditional knowledge which one generation has passed on to other. “There can be fusion between traditional knowledge and modern research and technology. IIT can come with Centre for Indian Knowledge.”
