Cops trying to trace man 'abducted' by People's Liberation Army

GUWAHATI: Police in Arunachal Pradesh are trying to trace a person alleged to be abducted by China's People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from the Asapila sector in the state’s Upper Subansiri district. “Officer-in-charge of the area is finding out and a detailed report is awaited,” Upper Subansari superintendent of police Taru Gusar told ET.

“We are yet to get a formal complaint from the family members. I have initiated action on the basis of reports received from social media and other platforms.”

He said this was not the first time such an incident had happened and that on several occasions those who had crossed the porous border with China had returned after some time. The Tagin Cultural Society in Arunachal Pradesh, which has sent a memorandum to governor BD Mishra, alleged that Toklu Singkom and his two friends had gone for fishing on March 19 when Singkom was picked by the PLA. Chinese security personnel ambushed the three and while two of them could escape, Singkom was abducted at gunpoint, it claimed in the memorandum.

BJP Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Tapir Gao told ET: “Toklu’s father Tai Singkom has circulated a WhatsApp message where he stated that his son has been abducted by China as he was working as a hunter for the army on the Taksing border.”

An army official, who does not want to be named, told ET: “We do not know what does his father meant by working as hunter for the army, for he was not associated with us in any way. Efforts are on to trace him.” Gao last year had alleged that the Chinese army had intruded into Arunachal Pradesh's remote Anjaw district and constructed a bridge over a stream.
