Zomato Relaunches 'Gold Loyalty program', provides dining and delivery discounts

Online food delivery platform Zomato on January 24 has relaunched its Zomato Gold loyalty programme, Zomato Gold. Customers may use this service to get savings on food delivery and in-restaurant dining. To use this service, users need to pay an initial registration fee of Rs 149 for a three-month membership.

Zomato's rewards program has gone through four versions. Zomato launched Zomato Pro in 2020, replacing the original Zomato Gold membership package, before introducing Zomato Pro Plus in 2021. Pro provided additional benefits such as priority deliveries and discounts on food orders, while Gold concentrated on restaurant discounts.

Zomato suspended Pro Plus in July 2021 as it was aiming to revamp its loyalty programme to focus more on dining in.

Zomato Gold members will also get preferential access amid high demand and during rush hours. Zomato Gold also provides various meal deals. The food delivery platform has collaborated with over 10,000 restaurants around the country to provide Gold members with up to 40% off on dining out.

Zomato has also discontinued its 10-minute meal delivery service due to difficulties in expanding the business. In 2019, the company was forced to discontinue its Infinity Dining service after getting complaints from restaurants throughout India.

Meanwhile, Swiggy, Zomato's main competitor, has stepped up its attempts to capitalise on restaurant eating by acquiring Dine Out. The Swiggy One membership's Dine Out integration will include everything from meal ordering and restaurant dining to grocery delivery.

The integration of Blinkit's grocery delivery service with Zomato's loyalty programme will be its most difficult issue. The food delivery company has suggested that it may explore a joint reward programme with Blinkit, which it acquired for $570 million in 2021.
