Kamath says Bill Gates keeps visiting B'luru 'discreetly'

When Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world, came down to India last week, he met two Indian businessmans – Nikhil and Nithin Kamath – the brothers who co-founded Zerodha, India's largest stock brokerage firm.

The three leaders sat down early in the morning for breakfast, and as soon as Nikhil Kamath shared the picture on Twitter, it became talk of the town.

But Gates, the mind and man behind Microsoft, apparently keeps flying to Bangalore, mostly in a discreet manner, revealed the 35-year-old Kamath.

During an interview with Mashable India, Kamath was asked about his meeting with Gates, to which the businessman said it was “good”.

He then revealed that the Microsoft co-founder often travels to Bangalore, hinting that it's mostly carried out in a hush-hush manner to keep the media frenzy and attention away. Kamath also disclosed the reason behind Gates' frequent visits. to Bangalore.

“He has the Giving Pledge, right. There are four signees in India, three of them happen to be in Bangalore.” he said at ‘Mornings with Siddhaarth Aalambayan’ show.

The Giving Pledge is a campaign to encourage extremely wealthy people to contribute a majority of their fortune to philanthropic causes. According to reports, as of June 2022, the pledge had over 236 signatories from 28 countries.

Kamath further disclosed that the 67-year-old philanthropist is media shy, just like him. "I feel like whenever a camera is around me I feel conscious a lot. Let me give you an example of my own house. When I am recording a podcast with three of my friends who come home very often, I feel conscious even then," the entrepreneur said.

Further in the interview, Kamath also backed another businessman and billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg. Kamath urged people to not write off Zuckerberg, who has been receiving a lot of backlash ever since he decided to change the name of his Cupertino-based tech giant company and spending billions of dollars on Metaverse alone.

"This guy has an incredible track record of taking moonshots and getting them right. He did that with so many companies in the past, so I wouldn't write him off," Kamath added.
