Glasgow Airport reopens after suspicious item found to pose no risk to public safety

After police were called around 6 am on the appearance of a suspicious item, check-in at the Glasgow Airport was shut down. It has been finally reopened as the item did not pose any risk to the public.

Images posted on social media showed lengthy lines at the international terminal as two fire teams and bomb disposal units were called to the scene. The passengers were asked to take refuge in the multi-level parking structure.

According to a spokesman for police on December 5, at around 5.55 AM, police were alerted about a suspicious object inside Glasgow Airport's security search area.

The security hall and check-in sections were shut off to the general public as a precaution and as per protocol. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) was there, and the area was cordoned off. The multi-storey parking lot was used as a new check-in centre for the general public and employees.

It has been noted that emergency personnel and police are still on the site. Scotland Police arrived at the airport around 6 AM as a result of a concern regarding an item in a passenger's suitcase in the central search area, according to a statement issued by airport officials.
