Ukraine accelerates NATO application after Russia announces annexation of 4 regions

As Russian President Vladimir Putin claims to annex the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions of Ukraine, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky, has accelerated Ukraine’s application to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). President Putin has announced he will guard these four territories and protect the Russian citizens.

NATO's Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, has not commented on Putin’s hostile speech yet. The European Union has publicly condemned Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea as a violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

Putin claims that the West has robbed the entire world by using its financial and technological strength to support Ukraine. According to Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine has proved its compatibility with the alliance standards of NATO. Putin has invited Ukraine to join the peace talks but has denied handing back the illegally acquired regions. Zelensky has vehemently opposed peace talks with Russia if it continues to occupy Ukrainian territory illegally. According to Putin, Moscow has shown overwhelming support for the illegal seizures of Ukrainian territories. Constant annexations by Russia have led to gross human rights violations and atrocities.
