Fahadh Faasil reveals why the concept of 'Dhoomam' failed: 'I'm a smoker, I cannot tell others not to smoke'

Fahadh Faasil 's recent film 'Aavesham' has been running successfully in theaters since April 11th. The actor recently talked about why his 2023 film ' Dhoomam ' became a box office failure . He called it a pure execution, and the concept itself affected the film. The movie was made by Kannada director Pawan Kumar .

Talking to Onmanorama, Fahadh said that the movie was meant to spread awareness against smoking.
But he admitted that he is a smoker so cannot tell people not to smoke. He added that the intention was to raise awareness of the existing system, wherein a tobacco company is owned 70 percent by the Life Insurance Corporation. He was surprised by the system's dynamics. These companies can alter prices, introduce substitutes, and market cheaper products. However, the narrative of Dhoomam did not resonate as intended.

Fahadh stated that some topics are not meant to be made into cinema because those are beyond people's understanding. Such topics may sound good to listen to and seem a great cinematic opportunity, but they don't work when we try to make them into films.

Fahadh Faasil played the role of a sales executive in a reputed tobacco company, highlighting how the company's tactics risk a lot of lives and the scariest face of passive smoking . It also featured Achyuth Kumar, Roshan Mathew, and Aparna Balamurali.
