'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' director Adam Wingard unveils details of new VILLAIN Scar King

In a thrilling revelation for fans of the Monsterverse , director Adam Wingard has pulled back the curtain on the latest menacing new addition to the ' Godzilla and Kong ' universe - Scar King .

As the eagerly awaited sequel, ' Godzilla x Kong : The New Empire', hits screens worldwide today, Wingard shed light on the antagonist set to challenge the Titans.
Following the explosive clash in 2021's 'Godzilla vs. Kong', this latest instalment takes a different trajectory. Instead of pitting Godzilla against Kong, the film sees the unlikely duo joining forces to confront a common threat emerging from the depths of Hollow Earth, their shared origin.

In a departure from convention, Wingard emphasized that the film focuses on monsters driving the storyline. He told Reuters, "It's time to be able for the first time ever to do a movie that lets the (monsters) tell their own story from their own (point of view). I was just very excited to be able to do all these sequences where they're visually driven and we go sometimes eight minutes without a line of dialogue and you're just there with the monsters."

Going on to elaborate about the villain in this story, he shared with Pinkvilla, "The Scar King is a really exciting villain. He's sort of the anti-Kong, with motivations grounded in human desires for power and control."

Despite being non-human, Scar King's actions resonate with human themes of domination and ambition. Explaining the reason behind this, he told the portal, "He’s an ape, or he’s similar to an ape in the sense that he can think, feel and conspire, those kinds of things. His motivations are very grounded in human motivations, like power and control. He’s this type of super dictator living in Hollow Earth."

Revealing how Kong and Godzilla find a formidable oopponant in Scar King, he shared, "he can do all the things Kong can do, but he is very agile. So Kong has to get clever in terms of the way that he even physically approaches him. And Scar King ends up being a really interesting villain that’s formidable to both Godzilla and Kong, which is why they have to team up to take them down."

As the plot unfolds, audiences can expect thrilling confrontations and visually stunning sequences. 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' promises to deliver a cinematic spectacle that transcends traditional monster movies, offering a fresh perspective on the age-old battle between good and evil. Reprising their roles from the previous instalment are Rebecca Hall as the scientist Ilene Andrews and Brian Tyree Henry as the conspiracy theorist Bernie. Joining the ensemble cast is Dan Stevens , portraying the eccentric veterinarian Trapper.

The film releases worldwide today, March 27.
