'Joker: Folie a Deux' trailer: Joaquin Phoenix-Lady Gaga SHATTER records with 167 Million views in 24 hrs; becomes most talked-about trailer since 'Barbie'

' Joker: Folie a Deux ' is off to a record-breaking start. With 5 months to go before the Todd Phillips film hits the big screen, the film's first trailer has already raked in one of the highest views in 24 hours.


The highly-anticipated sequel to the DC hit starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga , the teaser trailer garnered an astonishing 167 million views and became the most talked-about trailer for the studio to have a solely digital release.



Following its debut at CinemaCon, the trailer swiftly made its online debut, amassing viewership and social engagement that surpassed Warner Bros' previous blockbuster, ' Barbie ', starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling .


Lady Gaga's social media presence, undoubtedly bolstered the trailer's reception among her 150 million followers, but a similar upward trend was also noted on YouTube and other platforms upon its premiere. Currently, the trailer shot past the 15 million views on YouTube alone, retaining its position as the #4 trending video nearly two days after its release.


Additionally, the trailer dominated Twitter during its first 24 hours, with ten related trending including - #JokerFolieADeux, Gaga, Harley, Harley Quinn , Joaquin Phoenix, Joker, Joker 2, Joker2, Lady Gaga, and Todd Phillips.


The success of the 'Joker: Folie a Deux' trailer gives the studio hope that the film might just shoot past the benchmark set by 'Barbie', which went on to gross $1.4 billion worldwide. With the original 'Joker' had become the first R-rated film to cross the $1 billion mark in 2019. With the buzz around the sequel, the film's box office numbers could just soar higher.


Although the 'Joker: Folie a Deux' trailer fell short of surpassing Marvel's ' Deadpool and Wolverine ', which holds the record for the biggest trailer launch with 365 million views, it must be noted that 'Joker 2' had only a digital release while the MCU film debuted during the Super Bowl slot.


Directed by Todd Phillips, 'Joker 2' is slated to hit theaters on October 4, in the Imax 70mm format.


While details about the plot remain under wraps, the film is touted to be a 'jukebox musical' set in the confines of Arkham Asylum, with Phoenix reprising his Oscar-winning role as Joker and Gaga starring as Harley Quinn.


The supporting cast includes Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey.
