Kajol jokes Ajay Devgn's career took off after he married her, says her favourite movie is 'Company', credits her husband's resillience as a producer
Kajol and Ajay Devgn make one of the best pairs in Bollywood. The couple tied the knot in 1999. They had first met each other on the sets of 'Hulchul' and fell in love. Since then, the duo have also collaborated professionally on many movies. Kajol's latest film 'Maa' is produced by Ajay. In a recent interview, Kajol opened up on Ajay's career graph, chose her favourite movies of Ajay and also credited him for his resillience as a producer after his first production 'Raju Chacha' flopped.
During a candid chat with The Lallantop, Kajol said with a humour and wit on dsiplay, "His career changed after he got married to me. Achi tarah se seekha ke nikaala hai maine unko."
As for her favourite film from Ajay’s body of work, Kajol picked two standouts. “I love Company , it is in my top favourites,” she shared, but added that The Legend Of Bhagat Singh remains closest to her heart. “Best film for me was actually Legend Of Bhagat Singh. It was amazing. I loved it. Ek kirdaar jo aise portray kia hai. Every bit of him was Bhagat Singh in that film.”
Kajol also opened up about the emotional toll Ajay experienced after the failure of Raju Chacha in 2000. Produced under his banner Devgn Films, the film was one of the most expensive Indian productions of its time but failed to make a mark at the box office, leading to substantial financial losses. Reflecting on that difficult phase, Kajol recalled, “It was really horrible. He was very upset that it didn’t do well. It took him a long time to feel better, that was a big blow to him.”
However, she praised Ajay’s resilience and commitment to storytelling despite the setback. “But, I have to give him credit that he still continued to produce films after that. Most people give up completely after such a big loss, they don’t take that risk again. He is doing it till today. Kudos to him as a producer to still want to give a quality product at the end of the day.”
