Honouring the Amtes for their work in healthcare

Mumbai: At the 23rd Karmayogi Award organised by the Bombay Medical Aid Foundation, husband-wife duo Prakash Baba Amte and Mandakini Amte, were felicitated for their work in healthcare. Both medical doctors are known for their philanthropic work.

During the award ceremony, Padma Shri Prakash Amte recalled his journey of working for the needy patients in outskirts of the state and providing them necessary medical treatments like his father Baba Amte.

“I would like to thank Bombay Medical Aid Foundation for giving us the Karmayogi Puraskar. I am continuing the legacy of my father. I have grown up seeing his work.

It gives me immense happiness to serve people to whom necessary medical aid is unreachable,” said 70-year-old Prakash. For over four decades, Amte couple has been providing medical services in the Himalakasas tribal area of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra. His inspiration has been his parents Baba Amte and Sadhanatai Amte.

Meanwhile, Mandakini Amte also thanked the foundation. She shared her journey of not just serving the society but also meeting her husband, Prakash Amte. Dr. Farooq Udwadia of Breach Candy Hospital was the chief guest on this occasion and Bombay High Court’s Justice Satyaranjan Dharmadhikari was the guest of honour.

The function was concluded in the presence of other special people, including Bombay Medical Aid Foundation, President, Arun Saraf. The foundation had also made a short film on the couple. The film tries to showcase the work done by the couple and the contribution of the Amte family as a whole.
