Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh director Rajkumar Santoshi gets death threat, seeks protection from Mumbai Police

Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, who is gearing up for the release of his film 'Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh', has claimed that he has been receiving death threats, and thus, has sought protection from the Mumbai Police.

Santoshi wrote a letter to the Special Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, requesting additional security for himself as well as his family.

This comes days after the press conference of 'Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh' was disrupted by miscreants in the city.

Rajkumar Santoshi writes to Mumbai Police CP

In the letter to Mumbai Police CP, Santoshi wrote, "I, Rajkumar Santoshi, a well-known director of films in the Indian Film industry, is hereby writing this letter to inform you about the interruptions in a press conference during a Horticular press conference held by our team on 20 January, 2023 for the release of the film 'Gandhi vs Godse'. My team for the movie 'Gandhi vs Godse' was in the middle of the press conference when it was interrupted by a group of people with vested interests. They barged into the press conference which was held at 4 PM at PVR Citi Mall, Andheri. Later, several threats were received from some unknown people asking me to stop the release and promotion for this movie."

He went on to say, "I feel unsafe and I further submit that grave damage and injury could be caused to me and my family members if such persons are set free and if no steps are taken by your ad-self and further losses would be caused not only to us but the public at large. I, hereby, humbly request you to take all necessary steps under law in this matter and further request you to urgently provide me with additional security to protect myself and other members of my family."

'Gandhi Godse: Ek Yudh' is a period film which depicts the war of two extremely opposite ideologies between Mahatma Gandhi and Nathuram Godse.

Rajkumar Santoshi is returning to direction after nine years with the film. His last released movie was Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, starring Shahid Kapoor. His daughter Tanisha is set to make her acting debut in Gandhi Godse-Ek Yudh, which also stars newcomer Anuj Saini.

The film is backed by Santoshi Productions LLP and PVR Pictures. Music is by famed composer AR Rahman with sound design by Resul Pookutty.
