Dyson V15 Detect review: The lean, clean machine

Send Push
Dyson in a short while has become a force to reckon with in India. Be it air purifiers, personal care appliances or vacuum cleaners — Dyson has made quite an impression with its products. Clearly targeted at the premium end of the spectrum, Dyson knows it audience and launches products keeping them in mind. The Dyson V15 Detect is one of the latest addition to the range of vacuum cleaners from the company. We have been using the vacuum cleaner for a while and here’s what we think of it:

Dyson V15 Detect review: Design

The Dyson V15 Detect looks very similar to the other vacuum cleaners from the company. The gun-style design looks quite sharp and is comfortable to use. There’s an LCD display that gives you a lot of information like the dust collected in units of microns. At times, you might just get alarmed at the amount of dust that can get collected in homes. You can also see the suction power that is being used by the vacuum cleaner. It also shows performance data as well as the battery life of the vacuum cleaner. The V15 Detect is slightly heavier — around 2.75 kg — than the V12 Slim which we had reviewed earlier. Still, it’s comfortable to use and you can take it in those corners that are harder to reach. One can detach the battery as well and charge it.

Dyson V15 Detect review: Performance
When it comes to cleaning, the V15 Detect does an absolutely fine job. You get three modes of cleaning -- Eco, Med and Boost — which utilise the power accordingly. For instance, Dyson has fitted a 240AW motor and the modes are meant to tell you how much power they will consume. For instance, if you use the vacuum cleaner in Auto mode, it will last for an hour whereas the Eco Mode is also somewhere close to 55 minutes or so.

Dyson has given a lot of attachments that all combine to deliver impeccable performance. You get an anti-tangle cleaner and digital motorcar cleaner among others. There’s also the laser slim fluffy cleaner — our default attachment — which is made to clean any sort of floor and does a fine job. There’s also Dynamic Load Sensor technology that can change the motor speed depending on the surface you are cleaning. For instance, if you are switching between carpets and hard floors, then the motor speed will change automatically.

The hair screw tool was another attachment that did impress us as it manages to collect hair from the surface very easily. You
also get tools like stubborn dust brush, mini soft dusting brush, and combination tool — which do their job really well.

There’s a laser-guided brush that can really spot unseen particles and then clean them up quite well. Be it rugs or carpets or hard floors, the Dyson V15 Detect does a fine job at cleaning a home.

The vacuum cleaner might look a bit intimidating with so many tools and parts. But it’s rather easy to set up and you can use it immediately. The sound of the cleaning is also rather muted, which is a big bonus for us.

There’s a bin at the front of the device which can be easily removed and cleaned. The Dyson V15 Detect also comes with a HEPA filter — just underneath the LCD screen — and it is removable as well. You can clean the filer by simply running it under the tap.

Dyson V15 Detect review: Verdict

Dyson has been on some sort of a winning streak with its products and it is set to continue with the V15 Detect vacuum cleaner. It is powerful and can effectively clean your home. There are enough attachments that come with the vacuum cleaner which will suffice all your cleaning needs. The one issue we had was that the vacuum cleaner takes way too long to charge but that’s the case with most vacuum cleaners Priced at Rs 62,900, the Dyson V15 Detect is a premium product and considering the likes of Samsung and Phillips have launched their own range of vacuum cleaners, competition has intensified. Having said that if budget is not a constraint and you want a vacuum cleaner that delivers really good performance, the Dyson V15 Detect is the way to go.
