Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro review: Smart and effective performer

Send Push
During those dreaded lockdowns at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of urban households perhaps felt the need of a robotic vacuum cleaner. The market for them has been there but has always been pretty niche. The robot vacuums are expensive, people still are perhaps still intimidated by them and a few other issues have plagued the category. Yet, there are brands that have persisted and grown the category. One such name is Ecovacs that has had multiple offerings in the robot vacuum category. Deebot N8 Pro is one of its latest offering. There are many things going for the Deebot N8 Pro and we checked them out. Here’s our review of the Deebot N8 Pro:

Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro review: Design
If you have seen robot vacuums then you would know that they all look pretty much similar. Shaped like a hockey puck, the Deebot N8 Pro looks like a big-sized moving disc. The vacuum comes in white colour variant. At the back of the vacuum, there is a slot to attach the mop, which does the cleaning. At the top, there is a lid, under which one can find the dust-bin, the power button, Wi-Fi button. The power button is a sliding one and its quite sturdy.

Inside the box you get the charging dock, brushes that get fixed on the robot, power cable, mopping pads and a mopping plate.

The robot is quite easy to setup and all you need is the Ecovacs app to get started. Just follow the on-screen instructions and you will be good to go. In terms of overall design, there’s not much that actually differentiates the robot vacuum from other products in the category.

Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro: Performance
The good thing about the Deebot N8 Pro is that it is a 2-in-1 device, which means it mops and vacuums. The app comes in handy before you actually get started with it. Once connected to the app, your house area is neatly mapped for the robot to do its job.

When it comes to robot vacuums, one is genuinely jittery about how they will avoid objects. There is furniture around the house or a carpet/rug or two which adorn the floors of most households. The Deebot N8 Pro is quite effective in detecting objects and then it can masterfully avoid them as well. And that’s because it comes with TrueDetect 3D technology.

What it does is that it has a 3D scanning algorithm which enables it to analyse the room. It can detect large as well as small objects and then makes it way through. So for instance, you have shoes lying around, the Deebot N8 Pro can quite skilfully avoid them and continue doing its job. Of course, there are times when you can sense a bit of hesitancy on the part of the robot but on most occasions it worked quite fine.

You really don’t need to do much except just switch the robot vacuum and on and let it do the hob at hand. The robot is smart enough to know when it is time to get back to the charging station. The suction is powerful enough to do cleaning but it’s not at the level of, say a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Deebot N8 Pro has peak suction power of 2,600 pa, which needs to be manually activated from the app. Cleaning is done quite nicely but when it comes to mopping you do feel that it has to do the same run twice to do a absolutely neat job.

It does take some time to actually clean the entire house. For instance, around the area of 1,000 square feet, it takes 50 minutes to do the cleaning bit. The noise levels aren’t that high but you will notice that someone or something is whirring in the background. The cleaning and mopping functionality both are quite effective and are bound to leave you quite impressed.

There’s a dustbin which is under the pop-up lid. Once its full, you an easily empty it and replace the bin. During almost a month of regular usage, we didn’t see the need to replace the bin. So it should last you at least a month quite easily.

Since it is a robot, it will tell you when it’s time to actually the internal parts of the cleaner as well.

Battery life is quite impressive on the Deebot N8 Pro. Ecovacs claims that the robot can clean a 2,000 square feet home on a single charge. When it senses that it is low on battery, it automatically returns to the charging dock. To fully charge the robot, it takes close to four hours.

Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro: Verdict
Priced at Rs 44,900, the Deebot N8 Pro is an impressive piece of machinery and does leave you quite impressed. If you are in the market for a robot vacuum cleaner, the Deebot N8 Pro can easily be your pick. It is quite a wholesome package in terms of its performance, ease of use and being a rather cool device.
