OnePlus 10R review: All things nice

Send Push
Fast charging support is one of the hottest trends going on in the smartphone segment. Almost all smartphone makers offer a device that supports fast charging. OnePlus too decided to join the bandwagon with the launch of the OnePlus 10R, the first smartphone of the company that supports 150W fast charging. Powered by a MediaTek processor, the smartphone runs Android 12. The 150W fast charging support will not let it run out of juice. We used this latest OnePlus offering for some time and here’s our complete review.

Design
The OnePlus 10R is a sleek-looking smartphone and its design resembles a lot to the recently launched Nord series smartphones and the Realme GT Neo 3. The rear panel of the smartphone sports a dual panel design. Half of the rear panel has a textured back and the other half is plain. Although the design of the OnePlus 10R resembles that of other phones available on the market, these small differences improve its look and make it stand out. You will also notice a squarish camera module on the back panel which houses the triple camera. Despite the large display, the smartphone is easy to hold and use with one hand. It has a compact form factor and weighs only 186 grams. You will find the power button on the right, while the volume rockers are placed on the left. The bottom part of the smartphone is home to the SIM card tray, USB Type C port and a speaker grille. The smartphone lacks a 3.5mm audio jack and it also does not come with any IP rating. But keeping that aside, the OnePlus 10R scores well in the design department.

Display
The display is also one of the excellent features of the OnePlus 10R. The OnePlus smartphone features a 6.7-inch full HD+ display with 1080x1412 pixel resolution. The AMOLED display offers 950 nits of peak brightness and 120Hz refresh rate. Like many other smartphones available in the market, the OnePlus 10R does not support a variable refresh rate. This means that users cannot use the smartphone at different refresh rates. Users can either set the screen refresh rate at 120Hz or at 60Hz. We used the smartphone at both refresh rates and undoubtedly the smartphone offered a smooth user experience at 120Hz. However, when we used the smartphone at a 60Hz refresh rate it increased the battery life and delivered a moderately smooth experience. The display also offers multiple colour modes which you can set as per your liking. We mostly used the smartphone in Vivid mode and witnessed no issues with the performance. The display also offers clear visibility under direct sunlight. The large display is surrounded by thin bezels on all sides and with HDR support you will enjoy binge-watching on the large screen.

Performance
The OnePlus 10R is powered by an octa-core Dimensity 8100 MediaTek processor paired with up to 12GB of RAM. The smartphone comes in two storage options -- 128GB and 256GB. With all these specifications onboard, the OnePlus 10R managed to deliver snappy and flawless performance. You can multitask easily and can also use some heavy-duty editing apps and do your routine work on the smartphone without worrying about performance. The smartphone will not disappoint you anytime. We also played some graphic intensive games on the handset and it surprised us with the smooth performance. We also did not notice any heating issue with the smartphone despite our long gaming and binge-watching session.

Coming to audio performance, the OnePlus 10R comes equipped with stereo speakers. One speaker is located at the bottom, while the other is placed in the earphone. The stereo speaker delivers a powerful sound experience and you will be impressed with its bass output. The speaker placed at the bottom sounds much better as compared to the one located in the earphone. Be it the loudspeaker or the earphones, the sound experience was pretty good on the OnePlus 10R.

The OnePlus 10R runs Android 12 operating system topped with the company's own layer of OxygenOS 12. OnePlus is known for offering a stock Android experience and the company has maintained this with the OnePlus 10R as well. You will notice some ColorOS features and icon designs on the OnePlus 10R, but the company has refrained from incorporating any bloatware on the smartphone. Users can also customise the interface on the OnePlus 10R with AoD clock faces and different animation effects. The OxygenOS now also includes a dedicated dark mode which will be liked by many. The software on the smartphone also offers a private vault feature where you can store all your important files and data. Apart from this, you will get to experience all the native features of Android 12 on the OnePlus 10R.

Camera
The OnePlus 10R does not come with a Hasselblad camera. The smartphone sports a triple rear camera setup which comprises a 50MP main sensor with f/1.88 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP macro camera with f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps. Front is home to a 16MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

The 50MP main camera of the smartphone manages to offer some really good pictures. The images look warmer with an accurate amount of colour reproduction and ample detailing.

Apart from daylight, the shots taken during low light and indoors also turned out quite well. The images captured using the main camera offer a good dynamic range and will notice very less noise. The ultra-wide angle lens also delivered desirable results and the smartphone will also leave you impressed with its zoom capabilities. The shots taken in low light and during the night offered mixed results. The camera captured a lot of detailing in the images captured during the night.

Just like the main camera, the selfie camera also performs well. The selfies appeared too great during daylight and the quality degraded in low light. The selfies taken in the Portrait mode turned out to be fine with reasonable edge detection. You can also record HD resolution videos using the front camera.

Battery
OnePlus 10R is the first smartphone of the company to come with 150W fast charging support. The mid-range smartphone is backed by a 4,500 mAh battery and the smartphone supports 150W fast charging, which is also one of the main selling points of the smartphone. The smartphone manages to last for about 18 hours of moderate usage on a single charge. However, the fast charging support is there for the rescue in case you run out of battery. The company claims that the smartphone charges completely in just 10 minutes. During our testing, the smartphone took 15 minutes to charge completely, which was quite good. In all, the fast charging support and good enough battery backup act as a plus point for the OnePlus 10R users.

Verdict
OnePlus 10R comes with a starting price tag of Rs 38,999. The smartphone packs a powerful processor, a punchy display, and a pretty good camera and not to forget the 150W fast charging support. The phone is a good choice for those who are looking for a mid-range smartphone.
