The Vivo V70 was one of the most praised smartphones for its camera performance. The expectation from its successor was slightly higher than normal. Vivo went a step ahead and launched its fourth generation X-series smartphone in India -- Vivo X80. The series consists of two smartphones -- Vivo X80 and the Vivo X80 Pro. We got to use the Vivo X80 Pro, which is the most expensive smartphone of the company. With the X80 Pro, the company once again brought back the gimbal camera and the Zeiss optics. The smartphone also houses the company’s own custom-made V1+ chipset for better camera performance. Along with a powerful camera, the Vivo X80 Pro also promises to deliver flawless performance with the inclusion of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. We used the Vivo X80 Pro for some time and here’s our complete review:

Vivo X80 Pro sports an elegant design and it does look premium. The flagship smartphone has borrowed some of its design aesthetics from its predecessor Vivo X70 Pro+. Looking from the front, you will not be able to differentiate between the two smartphones as both of them feature curved displays. But the design of the rear panel acts as a major differentiator between the two smartphones. The rear of the Vivo X80 Pro houses a giant camera module which comes with frosted glass coating. The Vivo X80 Pro is a combination of metal and glass and its sleek and lightweight design makes it comfortable to use and hold. The camera module is slightly protruding which makes the smartphone wobbly when kept on a flat surface. The textured rear panel of the smartphone also makes it fingerprint-resistant. The front is dominated by a bright and vibrant 6.8-inch OLED display and a tiny punch hole camera. The right side houses the power button and volume rockers. The USB Type C charging port, SIM card tray and speaker grille are located at the bottom. Vivo has also incorporated an IR blaster in the smartphone which is located on the top. This enables you to use the smartphone as a remote control for your TV, AC and more. It will not be wrong to say that Vivo has designed the smartphone well and it has all the looks required for a flagship smartphone.

Vivo X80 Pro sports a 6.78-inch Quad HD+ display with 1400x3200 pixel resolution. The AMOLED LTPO screen comes with a variable refresh rate which goes from 1Hz to 120Hz. The smartphone display offers great performance and experience. You can customise the display settings as per your need for a desired screen experience. The smartphone display offers three colour modes -- standard, professional and bright. You can also adjust the colour temperature and visual enhancements with the help of a toggle button. You can also adjust the display resolution from FHD+ to QHD+ and refresh rate to 60Hz, 120Hz and smart switch. The smart switch feature automatically balances the refresh rate of the display based on the content.

The display offered a bright and vibrant colour reproduction. The large screen also offers a great experience while binge-watching. Vivo has also added some display features in the smartphone such as Dark mode, eye protection and more. Along with this, Vivo has also baked an interesting feature in the display. The company has incorporated an app shortcut feature in the fingerprint scanning area of the smartphone. This enables the users to enter the desired app directly by unlocking the smartphone.

In all, the Vivo X80 Pro offers an at-par display compared to most flagship smartphones available in the market.

Vivo X80 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage. The smartphone does not come with microSD card support. With these specifications on board the Vivo X80 Pro does deliver a lag-free and great performance. The smartphone very well handled all the tasks be it gaming to multitasking. You will not face any issues with the performance. We also did not witness any heating issue with the smartphone during our testing. We also played multiple heavy-duty games on the smartphone and everything functioned smoothly.

Vivo X80 Pro houses stereo speakers and the audio output was also great. The smartphone manages to deliver a powerful sound experience. The smartphone was loud enough when we listened to music and a podcast on loudspeaker. The smartphone also delivered a pleasant audio experience over headphones.

Coming to the software, Vivo X80 Pro runs Android 12 operating system topped with the company's own layer of FunTouch OS. The company has upgraded the FunTouch OS with better features. However, you will still find some bloatware on the device such as some of the apps like Facebook, Agoda, Shopee and more that come pre-installed. You can remove some of the bloatware but some will stay on the device forever. The company has also promised the Vivo X80 Pro will get three major OS updates and three years of security patches. FunTouch OS 12 offers small widgets and some really handy and useful features. The OS layer offers a new grid layout which enhances the multitasking experience. Other than this, you will also get to use the native Android features for a better user experience. The improved FunTouch OS makes the device easy to use and user-friendly.

Vivo X80 Pro features a quad-rear camera co-developed by Zeiss Optics. The rear camera comprises 50MP main sensor with f/1.57 aperture, LED flash, 48MP ultra-wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, 12MP portrait camera with f/1.85 aperture and 8MP periscope camera with f/3.4 aperture. The company has also added the V1+ chipset in the smartphone that promises to offer better low light shooting in an environment with lower brightness levels. Not to forget, this all-new Vivo phone has also retained its gimbal functionality. On the front you will get a 32MP selfie shooter with f/2.45 aperture.

Talking about the camera performance, the shots taken with the primary camera turned out well. You can notice ample amount of detailing and the images were also pleasantly saturated. The Vivo X80 Pro also comes with Zeiss True Color toggle in the viewfinder which enables you to capture more realistic shots. Apart from the detailing, the dynamic range also continues in the images and there was also less amount of visible noise. Moving ahead, the images taken using the 48MP ultrawide camera also turned out pretty well. You get a fair amount of detailing and a low level of noise in the images. The camera lacks behind when it comes to colour reproduction. The colour reproduction offered by the primary camera is much better when we compare it to the images taken with the ultra-wide-angle lens.

Vivo has worked a lot in terms of night photography and the camera on the Vivo 80 Pro will impress you with its night time photography. During the night both the primary camera and the ultra-wide-angle lens offer good results. The ultrawide camera also functions as a macro camera. Vivo allows you to use the camera in the super macro mode and it can also be enabled automatically with the help of a toggle.

image image We personally didn't like the results of the Super Macro mode. The camera instead delivered some great macro shots with the mode off.

The Vivo X80 Pro comes with 2x and 5x zoom camera setup just like its predecessor. The 12MP 2x optical camera does a fair job when it comes to images taken in zoom and offers consistent results throughout. On the other hand, the 5x periscope camera offers images with a great amount of sharpness. The 2x camera on the Vivo X80 Pro comes with a micro-gimbal stabilization setup and it adds a great amount of stability when you are using it in low light.

The smartphone also offers multiple shooting modes and one of our favourites is the Astro mode which is designed to capture the stars.

Vivo X80 Pro offers some extensive video recording functionalities. The camera is capable of recording 8K videos at 30fps and 4k videos at 60fps. The smartphone offers great stabilization while capturing videos you will not notice any wobble in the final result. The video captured offers warmer and real-life colours. You will not notice any noise in the videos and the end result will definitely make you happy. The smartphone also offers an ultra-stable mode which is present on the ultra-wide camera. The mode helps in stabilising shakes while recording videos.

Like all the other Vivo smartphones, the X80 Pro also offers good results when it comes to the front camera. As mentioned above the smartphone packs a 32MP selfie camera which delivers detailed, clear and noise-free selfies. The selfies captured during daylight turned out quite well, while you will notice a little bit of noise in the ones captured indoors. Other than this, the smartphone does manage to offer Instagram-worthy selfies.

Vivo X80 Pro is backed by a 4,700 mAh battery with 80W fast charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging. During our testing, the smartphone delivered satisfactory battery performance. When we used the Vivo X80 Pro at maximum settings such as 2K display resolution with 120Hz refresh rate the smartphone managed to last up to 7 hours. However, when we toned down the settings and did our routine work, then the smartphone lasted for about 20 hours. So, the Vivo X80 Pro offers satisfactory battery performance. The existence of fast charging does work in the favour of the smartphone. The smartphone charges quite fast and it was completely charged within 40 minutes with the help of the 80W fast charger given in the box. The smartphone also comes with wireless fast charging support but we were not able to test that. The flagship smartphone can also function as a power bank for your other devices.

Vivo X80 Pro supports 10W reverse wireless charging; this means that you can charge your earbuds, fitness tracker and more using the smartphone.

Vivo X80 Pro is launched at Rs 79,999 making it the most expensive smartphone of the company. Priced on a higher side the smartphone offers the best of both hardware and software. On top of the flawless user experience, you also get a camera setup which will not disappoint in any kind of lighting conditions. Along with its premium and elegant design, fast charging support works as an added advantage. The company has further made the deal sweeter by adding stereo speakers, IP rating and reverse charging to the smartphone. So, it can be a good buy if you are looking for a premium Android smartphone.
