These mobile users will not have to pay more for data, calls
Starting December 3, Vodafone-Idea and Airtel subscribers will have to pay more for calls and data. For Reliance Jio users, the revised tariffs will kick in from December 6. In order to increase the Average Revenue Per User (ARPU), the telecom majors are revising tariffs of their pre-paid plans to survive in the market. Having said that the revised increased tariffs will majorly affect prepaid subscribers of Airtel, Vodafone-Idea and Reliance Jio. However, post-paid subscribers need not worry as there will be no change in their bills.
Both Airtel and Vodafone-Idea have not increased tariffs for their post-paid customers as these subscribers are said to be already paying around Rs 499 monthly on average. On the other hand, for pre-paid subscribers, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are ensuring that they will have to pay a minimum of Rs 49 to stay connected for about a month post the price hike.
Reliance Jio will be charging up to 40% higher with its new all-in-one plans offering unlimited data and voice calls. These plans will have a fair usage policy (FUP) for calls to other mobile networks and will be effective from December 6. Vodafone-Idea and Airtel have also put a limit for outgoing calls that can be made on to other telecom operator to 1,000 minutes for plans with 28 days validity, 3,000 in 84 days validity plans and 12,000 in 365 days validity plan respectively. Beyond this limit, customers will need to pay 6 paisa per minute for all outgoing calls.
Despite the increase in tariffs, all three telecom operators are offering other value added services bundled with their plans which ranges from offers from OTT players or e-commerce platforms.
“Airtel’s new plans, represent tariff increases in the range of a mere 50 paise/day to Rs. 2.85/day and offer generous data and calling benefits. In addition, Airtel provides exclusive benefits as part of the Airtel Thanks platform, which enables access to premium content from Airtel Xstream (10,000 movies, exclusive shows, and 400 TV channels), Wynk Music, device protection, anti-virus protection and much more,” the telco claimed.
