India is the second most spoken language in the world. With about 500 million people speaking Hindi in India, the language has its roots in the classical Sanskrit language and is written in the Dev Nagari script. Much of the vocabulary of Hindi comes from Sanskrit. Needless to say, the scope in Hindi as a career is immense.

The Constitution of India declares Hindi as the official language of the Union (Article 343(1)). At the State level, Hindi is the official language of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. Hindi is also accorded the status of co-official language in several States.

Job Opportunities in Hindi Language...With growing popularity of the language, there has been a growing vista of employment in the field. Various posts like Hindi Officer, Hindi Translator, Hindi Assistant, Manager (Official language) in different departments and units of Central / State governments have come up where scholars can apply to.

When it comes to print and digital media, opportunities have increased manifold. Editors, Reporters, Correspondents, Sub Editors, Proof Readers, Radio Jockey, Anchors etc. are in demand.

Translation of the works of eminent International writers into Hindi is another demanding option today. There is also the work of translating scripts of films/ advertisements into Hindi/ English. One can earn livelihood as a freelance translator and can also set up translation firms.

Foreign countries are also open to Post Graduates in Hindi for teaching the language in their universities. Also, one can always choose the traditional option of teaching Hindi at schools, colleges and universities as teacher and professor in India.
